The Carthage College women’s soccer team (17-4, 5-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost to Wisconsin-Eau Claire (18-2-3), 3-0, on Friday, Nov. 14 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship at Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Bollinger Athletic Fields in Eau Claire, Wis. Click here Wisconsin Eau Claire’s NCAA soccer web site. Wisconsin-Eau Claire led at halftime, 1-0, thanks to Rachel Nerison’s 14th goal of the year, assisted by Liz Kooistra, at 25:23. Amy Smith’s 22nd goal of the season at 81:07 made it 2-0. Alyssa Walker scored on a header off a corner kick, assisted by Allison Smith, at 89:37 to complete the scoring at 3-0. In the other first-round contest on Friday, CCIW-champion Wheaton College (Ill., 19-3-1) defeated Carroll College (Wis., 13-6-2), 3-1. Wisconsin-Eau Claire will play host to Wheaton (Ill.) in a second-round game on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. Carthage, which received an at-large berth to this year’s NCAA championship, made its second-straight NCAA appearance. The Lady Reds lost to Wartburg College, 2-1 in overtime, in the second round last year after defeating Concordia College (Moorhead), 2-1, in a first-round game, also at Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
