Steve Domin, Head Coach and Director of Soccer Operations

Steve Domin begins his 15th year as a head men’s soccer coach in 2009 (138-107-23, 14 years) and his fifth year as director of soccer operations.  Domin was named CCIW “Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year” in both 1996 and 2007.  His 2007 team won a CCIW title and qualified for the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship, and his 2008 squad reached the finals of the CCIW Men’s Soccer Tournament and tied for the tournament championship. 

Domin coached the Carthage women’s soccer team from 1995 to 2004, compiling a 130-59-9 in 10 years (.679 winning percentage, ranked 35th all-time in NCAA Division III) and winning a CCIW co-championship in 2001.  Under his direction, Carthage has produced 78 All-CCIW performers, in both men’s and women’s soccer, 19 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Wisconsin honorees, 11 NSCAA all-region players and a pair of NSCAA All-Americans.

Domin is a former member of the NCAA Division III Soccer Championship Committees for both the men and the women.  He is also the director of the Carthage soccer camps and works with both the 5 Star and the Kenosha Select Soccer programs.  Domin holds an advanced coaching license from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and a national license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).

Domin is a native of Naperville, Ill., attended Naperville North High School and was named all-area in soccer and Daily Herald all-state in baseball.  He graduated from Carthage in 1993 with a bachelor’s in recreation, sports and fitness management and received his master’s in education, also from Carthage, in 1995.  Domin played on Carthage’s 1991 to 1993 club soccer teams. 

He also had a four-year playing career for the Carthage baseball team.   A two-year team captain,  he compiled a .322 career batting average as the Red Men’s second baseman and was named to the NCAA Central Region all-tournament team as a senior.  He holds a Carthage career record with only 24 strikeouts in 450 at bats.  Steve and his wife, Stephanie, the Carthage women’s coach for both cross country and track and field, live in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., with their one-year-old son, Ty.

Chris Fidlow, Student Assistant Coach

Chris Fidlow begins his first year as a student assistant coach in 2009 after a four-year playing career with the Red Men from 2005 to 2008.  A native of Gurnee, Ill., Fidlow was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America third-team All-North Region in 2007 and was a three-time NSCAA All-Wisconsin honoree and a three-time All-CCIW pick between 2006 and 2008.  He is completing work on his bachelor’s in exercise and sport science.

 

Cody Taylor, Graduate Assistant Coach

Cody Taylor begins his first year as a graduate assistant coach in 2009 after a four-year playing career with the Red Men that spanned 2003 to 2008.  A native of Kenosha, Wis., and Bradford High School, Taylor graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s exercise and sport science.  He is working on his master’s in education, also at Carthage.

 

Tim Burke, Part-Time Assistant Coach

Tim Burke begins his 10th year as a part-time assistant coach in 2009 following a three-year playing career at Carthage.   A native of Naperville, Ill., Burke lettered three times from 1996-98, was named both second-team All-CCIW and CCIW all-academic in 1998, and served as team captain in both 1997 and 1998.  He graduated from Carthage in 1999 with a bachelor's in business and is currently a client director for the Nielsen Company in Schaumburg, Ill.  Burke is also the president of the Carthage Soccer Boosters & Alumni Club.

 

Nate Johnson, Part-Time Assistant Coach

Nate Johnson begins his first year as a part-time assistant coach in 2009 after two years as a student assistant coach.  A native of Whitefish Bay, Wis., Nate played on the 1999-2002 Carthage men’s soccer teams and graduated from Cardinal Stritch University.  He holds a United State Soccer Federation license and is a coach for FC Milwaukee.

 

Brent Malmstrom, Part-Time Assistant Coach

Brent Malmstrom begins his fourth year as a part-time assistant coach in 2009. A native of Oswego, Ill., Malmstrom was an Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association all-state player in high school before playing for the 1997-2000 Red Men. He was named All-CCIW four-straight years, including first-team honors in 1997, 1998 and 2000. He was also named National Soccer Coaches Association of America third-team All-Midwest Region in 1999, NSCAA All-Wisconsin in both 1998 and 1999 and was a winner of a Carthage “Joseph F. Simmons Award” for career athletic achievement in 2001. He graduated from Carthage in 2001 with a bachelor’s in elementary education and received his master’s in administration and education leadership from National Louis University in 2006. Malmstrom resides in Oswego, Ill., where he teaches fifth grade. He has played soccer for the Vikings in the Chicago Metropolitan Soccer for the past 11 years.
