Professor Ron Cronovich Joins the Department

Ron Cronovich, Associate Professor of Economics, joined the department at the beginning of the fall term. Ron joins us from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he has been teaching for the past 14 years. He is currently teaching principles, money and banking, and intermediate microeconomics. With his addition to the faculty we are able to expand and strengthen our course offerings and Ron will be offering a new course in international finance in spring 2009. We are very pleased he has joined us and look forward to benefiting from his enthusiasm and talents.

Please take a moment to introduce yourself to Ron and welcome him to Carthage if you have not yet met him in classes or through department activities.

J Term Economics Study Tours

Three members of the department are conducting study tours to different parts of the globe over J Term 2009.

ECON 671  New Zealand Field Studies

Professor Brent McClintock, along with Prof. Allen Vogt (Social Work), will lead a second group of students to New Zealand to explore the political economy of this small, trading nation.

ECON 681 Political Economy of the Black Sea Rim

Professor Yuri Maltsev will lead a tour of several countries, including Turkey, emphasizing the political economy of these Black Sea neighbors.

ECON 271 After the Peace: Causes and Consequences of the Guatemalan Civil War

Professor Ed Montanaro, with Professor Stephanie Mitchell (History), will investigate the conditions leading up to the Guatemalan civil war and the aftermath.

Economics Department at the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies Conference

Professors Maltsev, Montanaro, and Schlack will present papers at the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies Conference to be held at the Clausen Center on October 17-18, 2008. The conference theme is "The World and Business: Responsibilities, Obligations and Profit".

 

Omicron Delta Epsilon Activities

The economics honor society, Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE), is organizing several activities in the fall term. Details are as follows:

The Economy and the Election - a discussion led by Professor Montanaro and Professor Jerry Mast (political science) on the financial crisis and its likely effect on the economy and the political system, including the federal elections.
