The Honors Program

Individualized education in the liberal arts setting has long been a hallmark of studies at Carthage. Many students with excellent high school or college transfer records find a course of study tailored to their needs in the Carthage Honors Program.

Students in the Honors Program meet College and major requirements while finding the extra challenges and support they need to get the most out of their education at Carthage. Whether you wish to complete all the requirements of the program and work toward All-College Honors at graduation, or whether you simply wish to take advantage of some of the benefits of the Honors learning community during your years at Carthage, you will find that the Honors Program will enrich your learning experience, both in- and outside of the classroom, and better prepare you for work, graduate school or other opportunities.

The Rewards of the Honors Experience

Unique advantages are available to Carthage students who participate in the Honors program. Among the benefits, Honors students will have the opportunity to:

  • work closely with professors on independent projects, publications, and research, which will better prepare them for graduate school and the professional world;
  • become involved in Honors Council, Honor societies, campus organizations, and athletic teams, all of which provide leadership and mentoring experiences;
  • receive institutional and individual support as they pursue prestigious national awards, such as the Truman and Fulbright Fellowships;
  • take unique interdisciplinary courses to make connections across the boundaries of majors and departments, while learning from one another; and
  • become regularly involved as participants and observers in the cultural, artistic and scholarly life on campus, as well as within the communities of Kenosha, Chicago and Milwaukee.

"The academic opportunities at Carthage along with the support and attention from professors have allowed me to grow personally and professionally, and have given me the confidence to strive for goals, like a Fulbright Scholarship, which will be an important step out into the world and will solidify the foundations upon which I build my career."
