Students studying accounting at Carthage have many opportunities to enrich their education.

Velocity Consulting

Carthage’s Velocity Consulting was the first 100-percent student-run, full-service consulting agency in the country. Members gain incredible experience and build a strong portfolio while providing marketing, branding, graphic design, web development, accounting, finance, product testing, and editing services for area businesses and nonprofits. Past clients have included Johnson Outdoors, Snap-on Inc., Kenosha County, Expanded Technologies, and the Urban League of Racine. The organization was created in 2009 to give students the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom in a meaningful way and gain real-life work experience before leaving college. Other colleges have since copied the Velocity model, including Harvard University.

J-Term

January Term, or J-Term, is a month-long period of study in January in which all academic departments offer innovative courses on campus, as well as study tours in other countries. While many business students use J-Term to fill an academic requirement, others gain valuable global experience by traveling abroad. Carthage accounting and finance professors regularly lead study tours to such destinations as China, Sweden, and England, where students meet executives and see firsthand how global businesses operate.
