Did you know that Carthage has ties to President Abraham Lincoln and John Hay, a former U.S. Secretary of State? Statues of President Lincoln, a past trustee of the College, and Mr. Hay, a notable alumnus, can be found in the iconic Sesquicentennial Plaza. The sculpture, titled “A Learning Moment,” captures President Lincoln sharing a story with his protégé, highlighting the importance of mentorship and learning.
