Career goal
“After Carthage, my goal is to go to law school. I am specifically interested in criminal law and family law. The classes at Carthage piqued my interest in these subjects.”
How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?
“I came to Carthage as an undecided student. It’s thanks to the instructors that I’m ending college with a double major in criminal justice and political science and a minor in sociology.”
Favorite class
“My favorite class so far was Introduction to Political Theory with Professor Paul Ulrich. He presented the information in such an interesting and engaging way, and he made even an 8 a.m. class bearable!”
Campus involvement
“I am the president of Phi Alpha Delta, the campus pre-law fraternity, and a member of many other clubs on campus. One thing about Carthage and extracurriculars is that you have such a great opportunity to advance into executive board positions. I have served on most of the executive board positions for Phi Alpha Delta throughout my college experience, even when I was a freshman!”
Opportunities at Carthage
“I went on a J-Term study tour to Peru in January 2022 and had a truly life-changing experience. I was immersed in a different culture and was able to learn so much about politics and women and gender studies in Peru. I highly recommend all students take a study tour.”
Favorite moments and memories at Carthage
“I’ve met some of my closest friends at Carthage and have so many memories with them. It really shows that you will find your people.”
Favorite spot on campus
“My favorite spot is the beach behind The Tower. It’s a great place to relax or do homework!”
Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?
“A major in criminal justice or political science is a great choice for those who are interested in law, public policy, or government. Most importantly though, I think everyone should choose a major they are passionate about. Majoring in something you are actually interested in is crucial to being successful because you have to enjoy doing the work.”
Why Carthage?
“I chose Carthage because, coming from a town with a large state university, I knew large class sizes were not for me. I did not want to get lost in a crowd of students, and creating relationships with faculty and other students is important to me. And the beauty of the lake is a bonus!”
