Carthage business students can enrich their studies by getting involved in a number of student organizations dedicated to supporting business students, exploring future careers, and celebrating student achievement. These organizations give business students the opportunity to practice what they’ve learned in the classroom.

Carthage Accounting Association

The Carthage Accounting Association serves as a professional development and social group for accounting majors at Carthage; it is a great way to meet other accounting and finance majors and network with professionals in the field. The organization sponsors field trips and speakers, hosts resume workshops, and organizes volunteers for income tax preparation assistance. Other events include an annual alumni dinner and end-of-year picnic.

Enactus, open to all majors, is an international nonprofit organization that empowers businesses and people in the community to create a better, more sustainable world. Through Enactus, students take skills learned in the classroom and apply them to real-world problems. Projects may focus on market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, business ethics, or environmental sustainability. Enactus encourages active hands-on learning, teamwork, leadership development, communication, enhancement, and educational growth. Every spring, an Enactus team competes at a regional competition, where the team presents its projects to a panel of business leaders and professionals. There are more than 200 partner companies that sponsor Enactus and provide networking opportunities for Enactus students.

Finance and Investment Club

Financial and Investment Club aims to develop students’ financial skills, introduce students to financial instruments, connect students to internship and career opportunities, and encourage students to manage their income effectively now and in their futures. The club facilitates learning and networking opportunities between finance students and Carthage alumni/local financial firms. The organization hosts speakers and presentations from various financial institutions with the potential to gain internships.

Pi Sigma Epsilon

Pi Sigma Epsilon is the only national professional co-ed sales and marketing fraternity. Since 1952, PSE has served more than 50,000 members nationwide. Members acquire professional skills and gain practical experience through their active involvement in implementing projects. The annual National Convention provides opportunities to network and learn. PSE welcomes all majors because professionals in all fields must learn to sell their ideas.

Velocity Consulting

Carthage’s Velocity Consulting was the first 100% student-run, full-service consulting agency in the country. Members gain incredible experience and build a strong portfolio while providing marketing, branding, graphic design, web development, accounting, finance, product testing, and editing services for area businesses and nonprofits. Past clients have included Johnson Outdoors, Snap-on Inc., Kenosha County, Expanded Technologies, and the Urban League of Racine. The organization was created in 2009 to give students the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom in a meaningful way and gain real-life work experience before leaving college. Other colleges have since copied the Velocity model, including Harvard University.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistant, or VITA

VITA is an IRS program that offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Students who want to volunteer for VITA must complete training and take a certification test. Students then spend a day or two gaining valuable knowledge in preparing tax returns as they perform important community service.
