Meal Plans for 2022-23

Carthage Dining will be transformed for the 2022-23 academic year! Carthage has partnered with Parkhurst Dining to bring an all-new dining experience to Carthage. Primarily serving private colleges and universities, Parkhurst emphasizes fresh, healthy, and creative meals hand-crafted by expertly trained chefs. In a new partnership that begins June 1, 2022, the company will manage The Caf and all other campus food and drink stations, as well as catering for campus events.

All Carthage meal plans include Meal Swipes, Meal Equivalencies, and Birdie Bucks (Go, Firebirds!). Here’s what those terms mean:

MEAL SWIPES

Meal Swipes are included in all meal plans. Each Meal Swipe is good for a single entry into the cafeteria for all-you-care-to-eat dining, or on specific mix-and-match options at other campus dining outlets. Meal Swipes can be used at:

• The Caf (all-you-care-to-eat)
• Campbell Student Union restaurants (meal equivalency option)
• RedZone convenience store (meal equivalency option)
• Lentz Do Lunch (meal equivalency option)

Meal Swipes are loaded onto your card weekly. Unused Meal Swipes roll over to subsequent weeks and do not expire until the end of the semester.

MEAL EQUIVALENCY

Meal Equivalency options are specific menu items at non-cafeteria food outlets that are equivalent to a Meal Swipe in the cafeteria. You’ll find Meal Equivalency options at the Campbell Student Union restaurants, RedZone, and Lentz Do Lunch. Mix and match items to the dollar amount associated with a breakfast, lunch, or dinner Meal Swipe.

BIRDIE BUCKS

Birdie Bucks can be used at any campus dining location:

• The Caf (though it’s best to use Meal Swipes here)
• Campbell Student Union restaurants
• RedZone convenience store
• Lentz Do Lunch
• Einstein Bros. Bagels
• Starbucks

One Birdie Buck equals $1. Birdie Bucks are loaded onto your card by semester. Unused Birdie Bucks will roll over from Fall to Spring semester but expire at the end of the academic year.

Carthage Cash

Carthage Cash can be purchased and added to your card in any denomination a la carte. Carthage Cash can be used at any dining venue and can also be used for other purchases across campus including in the bookstore.

Residential meal plans are purchased for an entire academic year and based on a 15-week semester.
Unused Meal Swipes roll over to subsequent weeks within a semester.
Meal Swipes expire at the end of each semester.
Birdie Bucks expire at the end of the academic year.
Guest Passes expire at the end of each semester.

Commuter Meal Plans can be purchased as needed in blocks of 25 or 50 throughout the academic year. Commuter Plan Meal Swipes can be used anywhere Meal Swipes are accepted (see glossary above for more information). Commuter Plan Meal Swipes expire at the end of the academic year.

Carthage’s J-Term is held every January, between the fall and spring semesters. Carthage will provide all residential students who are enrolled in an on-campus J-Term course with a J-Term Meal Plan that includes 2 Meal Swipes per day. Students may also use any remaining Birdie Bucks from the fall semester during J-Term.

Need to grab a meal to go? No problem! Every meal plan comes with a “Green Box” virtual token good for a to-go container you can fill with your selections. Check out a “Green Box” from the Caf. Then just return the container to refresh your token and use again.

Carthage will now offer faculty and staff meal plans that can be purchased at the Caf or Lentz Do Lunch payment registers. They come in a block of 10 meals for $55.00 ($5.50 per meal). Meal swipes can be used at the Caf, Lentz Do Lunch, and some Campbell Student Union outlets. Faculty and staff can also continue to add Carthage Cash to their cards should they wish to do so.
