Students hold second annual Sustainability Summit

The second annual student-organized Sustainability Summit took place April 1, with a successful turnout from Carthage students and Kenosha residents alike.

Lisa Bigalke, an adjunct faculty member in the Art Department, displays sustainability-focused work from her Rudbeckia Press during the 2023 Sustainability Summit. Speakers at the summit addressed a range of environmental issues, including the history of coal in Wisconsin, climate change’s impact on physical and mental health, eco-distress in the youth population, state climate policies, and stormwater pollution.

Student organizations such as Carthage United to Rescue Earth (CURE), Horticulture Club, and Entomology Club had informational booths alongside local sustainability-focused artists. Those included adjunct art faculty member Lisa Bigalke and Rudbeckia Press, the company she runs with her sister.

A faculty Q&A panel on sustainability and climate change featured professors Dana Garrigan, Angela Dassow, and Jojin Van Winkle.
