The first ever Carthage Social Justice Summit takes place from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in the A. W. Clausen Center.

The theme for this summit is “Turning Intention Into Impact.” This summit is for Carthage community members, students, faculty, and staff to learn about various social justice issues in our society. The overall purpose is to motivate others to make changes in the community.

The Office of Equity and Inclusion sponsors this event, which was organized by student workers Julia Peters ’24 and Gloria Castro-Jimenez ’24. These two students received a scholarship from Kären Rasmussen, who created the scholarship in honor of Pastor Kara Baylor, Carthage’s campus pastor who passed away last year. Pastor Baylor cared deeply about various social justice issues. This summit is to honor her legacy through educating others on these inequities in our world.
