Carthage to host drama therapy workshops and new play reading Satruday
On Saturday, May 11, the Carthage theatre and social work departments are teaming up to provide a unique experience!
Join us for an afternoon of workshops highlighting the use of theatre as a pathway to trauma recovery, culminating with the inaugural reading of Carthage’s latest verbatim theatre production: “Terminal Exhale,” which highlights the stories of frontline healthcare workers who treat the victims and survivors of gun violence.
This event will include interactive workshops led by Carthage alumna Nicole Middleton ’15, who specializes in using drama therapy to promote trauma healing.
“Terminal Exhale” is a new play written by Carthage students in conjunction with Chicago-based theatre artist Michael Cotey, creator of “Enough: Plays to End Gun Violence,” a national program producing short plays by young people from all over the United States. Students interviewed ten healthcare workers to weave together a script based on their unforgettable testimony about caring for gunshot victims.
“We believe this program is relevant for students and faculty members from majors such as psychology, social work, education, nursing, theater, music, and many more,” according to Debbie Kelly, social work professor.

There are two options to register for this event, which takes place in the Wartburg Theatre.
