The Education Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a second $50,000 grant from the William and Sheila Konar Foundation to support the Urban Teacher Preparation Program (UTPP).

This funding will enable the UTPP to continue its mission of increasing the number of teacher candidates and expert urban educators, enhancing and broadening external partnerships, and improving these candidates’ graduation, placement, and retention rates.

The program also plans to strengthen its collaboration with the East High School in Rochester, New York, enhancing its national impact.

In recognition of the valuable volunteer efforts provided by our esteemed colleague, Professor Michele Hancock, the Konar Foundation permits her to direct a $5,000 gift annually at her discretion. This year, Prof. Hancock has allocated these funds to Carthage, earmarking them specifically for emergency aid to senior education students facing hardships during their student teaching semesters.
