Biography

Within three months after arriving at Carthage in 2012, Mike Moore was invited to join an overseas study tour and assigned to cover an alumni event featuring a dessert bar in the Packers Hall of Fame. Clearly, this was the right place for him.

Mike left behind a 17-year newspaper career, in which he won statewide awards from the Milwaukee Press Club and Wisconsin Newspaper Association for news column writing. While at The Journal Times in Racine, he also spent time covering local government and sports, writing award-winning editorials, coordinating online content, and designing newspaper pages. His journalism career also included an internship at the Milwaukee Journal and a brief but valuable stint in Marion, Indiana.

Education

Favorite thing about working at Carthage

“As someone with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, I’m thrilled to be able to exercise my mind every day. Whereas faculty members at some larger schools take on an elitist attitude, Carthage professors are approachable and down-to-Earth despite boasting similar credentials. That means it’s easy to strike up substantive conversations.”

Other interests?

“I serve as vice chair of the School Committee and co-coach of the fifth-grade basketball team at John Paul II Academy in Racine, which our two children attend. Before that, I served on the Parish Council at St. Paul the Apostle Parish; taught English to Spanish speakers in informal tutoring sessions through Primera Iglesia Luterana; served on the board of directors with Racine Vocational Ministry; and led one-on-one spiritual discussions with youthful offenders in prison ministry.

“Although my ancestors came from many places, I have an affinity for all things Irish — especially traditional music. When I’m not playing with my kids’ toys, I typically can be found golfing or searching for gems on the waiver wire in my fantasy football leagues.”
