Biography

Gloria Cairo insisted as an 18-year-old that she’d never stay in Kenosha, but is so glad it has always been and is still her hometown. After graduating from Tremper High School, Gloria attended Hope College (not wandering too far from beautiful Lake Michigan!). Gloria dedicated a year of her college years to a volunteer service organization called YWAM (Youth with a Mission) — enjoying unforgettable and teachable experiences in Hawaii, Malaysia, and the Philippines with other students from more than sixty countries.

Gloria returned to Kenosha to continue her education at UW-Parkside and was invited to work at a local branch of an international company in her first role as an administrative assistant. This eventually led to a new opportunity that included working in the same capacity but with college-aged students for the next thirteen years. During this time, Gloria’s family loved hosting students from Germany, England, and the United States.

Gloria married her high school sweetheart and has three children. She is happy to now be a part of the Carthage community and do her part to help the Office of Residential Life’s team thrive and make Carthage a welcoming home away from home for our students.

Favorite thing about working at Carthage

“Seeing and personally experiencing the supportiveness of others is my favorite thing about working at Carthage. To hear there is an on-campus tradition of holding the door for others was one thing, but to have doors opened for me has been another. Enjoying the beauty of the lake every day ties as a favorite!”

Other interests?

“Walks with my husband, unhurried time at home laughing with my family, staying closely connected with my extended family and friends, reading, sunrises and sunsets, nighttime Target runs, blasting a playlist on the go, homemade baked goods, and decaf mochas in a mug.”
