Greg worked for 18 years in management at a corporation based in Northbrook, Illinois. He returned to Carthage in 2009 as a Director of Development. In that position, he traveled the country to meet with alumni and friends of Carthage who wanted to make a difference in students’ lives through various avenues of financial support. Greg joined the Admissions Office in 2014.

Best college search tip:

“Sign up for a campus tour at each college that you are interested in, no matter how close or far you live from it. You will learn so much more about opportunities by taking their tours, rather than simply driving through a campus! (I often hear local students comment that they didn’t realize all of the incredible opportunities at Carthage until they took the campus tour.)

Look for a school where professors will know you by name, where you can get hands-on experiences or research, have a proactive career center on campus, the college can open doors for you through internship connections, and have an active student life. These are all things that will determine your long-term success in life.

OK, I admit that last paragraph is a hint that Carthage is a great value!”

What do you learn from interacting with Carthage students?

“When I interact with Carthage students, I learn that their generation will do great things in this world. The experiences that our students gain in J-Term, internships, outside-the-classroom opportunities, and service organizations are unmatched on the local and global levels. It is very exciting to imagine how their actions will impact our world!”

What do you value most about working at Carthage?

“This is an easy question. I can answer this as the parent of multiple Carthage students/alumni, as well as someone who gets to know many students on campus. I value our students and the excitement of seeing what they can become in life. Our students are the reason that we all get out of bed every morning and come to campus. Student success is our top priority. I also value the personal instruction that students receive and the incredibly unique opportunities that are available no matter their field of study. There are as many learning opportunities outside of the classroom as in the classroom.”

“Team sports, golf, and photography. I love ‘lacing ‘em up’ and competing on the hardwood weekly. I enjoy Broadway musicals, too.”

Favorite Carthage tradition:

“Homecoming, hands-down. It’s hard to beat Homecoming with friends, football, and food.”

Favorite TV show:

ESPN SportsCenter. I try to catch the highlights at day’s end.”

Favorite movie:

Christmas Vacation (It’s an annual Thanksgiving night tradition in our house.)

Favorite sports team:

The Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Milwaukee Bucks.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

“My wife and I were married in Carthage’s A. F. Siebert Chapel. My slip-on dress shoes fell off when I knelt at the altar. She kept me anyway … whew!”

What are your recommendations for people new to Kenosha?

“For food: The Coffee Pot (breakfast), LaFogata (Mexican), Villa D’ Carlo or Kaisers (Pizza), Slip 56 or Waterfront Warehouse (burgers).

Also, the walking/bike paths along Lake Michigan. Petrifying Springs Park (especially in the fall colors). The sunrise over Lake Michigan from the Carthage shoreline. Kenosha Kingfish baseball in summer. HarborMarket downtown on Saturday mornings. And, the massive brand-name outlet mall at I-94 and Hwy 165.”
