Jing Chang

Professor Jing Chang is an accomplished pianist. She has performed widely as a soloist and chamber musician both in the United States and in Asia.

Prof. Chang was the first prize winner of the 2013 University of Minnesota Concerto Competition, the 16th Annual Masters Concerto and Aria Competition of the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra, the prize winner of 2012 Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, the 2007 Asian Piano Open Competition in Beijing, and several major national young artist piano competitions in Asia since 1996. She was also a semi-finalist of the 2014 Dallas International Piano Competition.

One of her most notable performances was in 2003 at the Steinway & Sons 150th Anniversary Celebration & Concert in Forbidden City in Beijing.

She received her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Minnesota and served as primary instructor of class piano as part of TA-ship.

Prof. Chang was an assistant professor at the China Conservatory in 2008 after receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees there. She has been studying in the Professional Adults Program at Dalcroze School of Rockies since 2019.

As an active presenter, Prof. Chang has been invited to present in the 2016 and 2020 ISMTA conferences, 2019 NCKP, and NSMTA in 2015, 2016, and 2022. Topics of her presentation included “Off-bench activities in private lessons — internalize music elements by body with Dalcroze Eurhythmics activities,” “Acceptance of Fear — A discussion of performance anxiety and common defense mechanisms beyond the conscious control,” and “Integrating Tai Chi principles into piano playing.”

Prof. Chang has been directing international music festivals and virtual workshops in Hong Kong, Guang Zhou, Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an since 2018 for pianists and singers from 8-year-old to professional adults.
