How did Carthage prepare you?

“The aspect of my Carthage experience that prepared me the most for my career was the ability to think critically and listen to others. It’s my job to solve problems in the community and you have to be able to listen to what the concerns are and then use your critical thinking skills to come up with a solution.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“The skills that I learned and honed at Carthage really laid the foundation for several things I do every day! As a law enforcement officer, there are problems that need to be solved every day and crimes that need to be investigated and solved. The ability to think through a problem, analyze evidence, and utilize the knowledge I have available to me pertaining to a certain case to make the right decision were all skills that I learned during my time at Carthage.”

What's your favorite Carthage memory?

“Football games, living on the Delta Upsilon floor, painting the Kissing Rock, and seeing the original Carthage campus in Illinois. Carthage helped me find out who I really was, helped me to discover and define what my core beliefs are, and helped me to see that I am just a small part of the global community around all of us.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“Don’t waste a second of the time you have at Carthage! Embrace the experience, get outside your comfort zone, and try some classes that interest you, even if they aren’t part of your major. You’ll be glad you did!”
