Zackary “SLiM” Simonini ’12 is thrilled to be back at Carthage. Since graduating in 2012, Mr. Simonini has lived between Illinois, Northern Virginia, and Washington D.C. Mr. Simonini has worked professionally for national nonprofits and event coordinators within the D.C. metropolitan area. He lives in Antioch, Illinois with his wife, Allison.

As a theatre artist, Mr. Simonini has worked with Carthage theatre previously as a master carpenter and assistant technical director. He is a small business owner and has assisted other theatres as well with their technical needs. He dreams of using his business to produce a play with longtime friends who are also fellow artists and Carthage graduates. Mr. Simonini is also a theatre performance artist, having worked with Milwaukee’s First Stage theatre as well as having performed in several independent films.

He is honored to be a part of the community that is Carthage College.

Hear from Mr. Simonini: Why theatre?

“Of the many jobs I have had, they all relate to theatre in one very important way: collaboration. Everything that we make or do in the theatre requires collaboration and communication. These skills, coupled with creativity and imagination, are valuable in all walks of life and all professions. Whatever path the students take after graduation, these skills will serve them well.

“I also love that I get to instruct the ‘industrial arts’ style class that is Stagecraft. Not only are these skills useful in the industry, but knowing how to use a table saw, cordless drill, and best practice safety techniques are useful to everyone and can be used throughout the student’s life while also helping them grow into more capable, well-rounded individuals. It is easy to love working with these students. I am appreciated and respected. We make plays, we tell stories, and we get to do it together. I simply cannot escape the rewarding, sweaty, dusty, and hard work that is theatre. The people, especially here at Carthage, are some of the most dedicated employees and students I have encountered.”
