Biography

Madeleine McKenna is a graduate student pursuing her Master of Science degree in clinical mental health counseling at UW-Parkside and works as an intern with Carthage’s Health and Counseling Center. Leading from a place of authenticity and empathy, she believes that each person is an expert in their own experiences, and she seeks to understand through compassion and collaboration. In addition to her role at Carthage, she serves as a mental health advocacy graduate assistant at UW-Parkside.

Madeleine is from Columbus, Ohio. Before her move to Wisconsin, she attended the California University of Pennsylvania, where she studied psychology and was a women’s varsity volleyball student-athlete. For the past 5 years, she has been involved with various committees in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s governance structure and has advocated for better mental health policies and practices in college athletics. She serves as a voting member of the NCAA Board of Governors.

Main responsibilities at Carthage

Madeleine is a student counselor-in-training intern committed to supporting students seeking help for various mental health and wellness concerns such as depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationship concerns, and more. She is under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals in the Health and Counseling Center.

“I love spending time with my family and friends back home in Ohio and making new friends here in Wisconsin! Exploring Kenosha since I moved here has been exciting, and I’m having fun finding some new favorite spots. I also coach club volleyball which has been a fun way to reconnect with the sport I’ve loved for so long.”
