Biography

Ava was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in East St. Louis, Illinois. She is very close with her family, which nurtured her passion for history with rich stories about the family’s origins. Ava would go on to pursue this passion by earning a bachelor’s degree in history from Eastern Illinois University.

During her time as an undergraduate, she served on the executive board of Unity Gospel Choir. After graduating, Ava relocated to Daegu, South Korea, to teach ESL. She discovered she loved teaching and learning so much that upon her return, she pursued a master’s degree in K-12 education from Alverno College. She continued at Alverno, earning her Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership.

Ava taught for ten years before joining the Carthage community and is very excited about this part of her journey. She enjoys living on campus and attending various student-centered events. She looks forward to building new relationships with students and staff around the campus.

Main responsibilities at Carthage

As Area Coordinator for the Oaks, Ava oversees the daily operations of each of the Oaks Residence Halls, which includes supervising and supporting the student staff, identifying resources for residents, and bringing accountability to residents. As an Area Coordinator, Ava is part of the on-call staff, responsible for responding to crisis calls situations and policy violations on campus.
