As a professor of communication and digital media specializing in graphic design at Carthage College, Kelly Kruse brings over two decades of experience in the dynamic field of design and digital media. With an MFA in Graphic Design from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she has honed her skills not only in the educational arena, but also through hands-on, practical work with numerous businesses and communities. Prof. Kruse’s work has earned multiple first-place awards in state marketing campaigns in both 2022 and 2023, reflecting her commitment to excellence and innovation in design.

Throughout her career, Prof. Kruse has been passionate about the transformative power of branding and digital strategy. This passion is rooted in her Montana origins, where the vast landscapes inspired a deep appreciation for visual aesthetics. At Carthage, she aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice, providing students with the tools they need to create compelling, effective designs that resonate in today’s digital world.

Her teaching portfolio at Carthage includes courses in business, management, social media, visual communication, and graphic design. These courses are designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the communication landscape, tailored to the evolving needs of the digital age.

Outside the classroom, her interests in gardening and running often mirror the patience and endurance required in the creative process. Just as a garden requires time and care to bloom, so too does the design process

Hear from Prof. Kruse: Why graphic design?

“I am particularly passionate about helping each student discover where their talent and passion intersect, fostering an environment where creative potential can flourish. Engaging with students and colleagues at Carthage continually inspires my own creative journey as well. Together, we explore the vast possibilities of digital media, striving to push the boundaries of what can be achieved through graphic design. I look forward to continuing to inspire and be inspired by the Carthage community, guiding the next generation of designers as they carve out their own paths in this exciting field.”
