Carthage nursing accreditation extended 10 years
On Oct. 3-6, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Board of Commissioners acted at its meeting to grant continued accreditation to the baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Carthage for 10 years, extending to Dec. 31, 2033. The next on-site evaluation will take place in spring 2033.
The program was considered by the board using the CCNE Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs (2018). At its meeting, the board determined that the program met all four accreditation standards. The board additionally determined that there are no compliance concerns with respect to the key elements.
The commissioners expressed their very best wishes to Carthage as it continues to promote excellence in nursing education.
The CCNE accreditation process is rigorous. Nancy Reese, director of the Nursing Department, thanks the nursing faculty and leadership team. Cheryl Petersen, assistant director of curriculum and assessment, and Alex Thompson, assistant director of simulation, were integral partners who applied their expertise with the CCNE site visit preparation and worked with the site visit team.
Full-time nurse faculty Dani Kozak-Joy, Rachel Martinez, and Becky Swambar provided many key elements and gave insightful feedback to our visitors. The most important part of this success is the stellar nursing students. Carthage nursing students are bright lights into the future of nursing and continually demonstrate their dedication to excellence.
Carthage nursing currently has 326 students enrolled in the program. Nursing employment is projected to grow by a faster-than-average 6percent between 2022 and 2032, translating into about 193,100 openings annually on average over that period, according to the bureau. Unfortunately, colleges and universities in Wisconsin graduate only 3,800 registered nurses annually; however, the need in 2025 is 9,600.
