Carthage has more than 130 student clubs and organizations through which students can get involved, explore possible careers, meet other students, work closely with faculty advisors, and perform customer service.

Centrique

Centrique is Carthage’s creative arts journal, publishing the work of some of Carthage’s most talented writers, artists, and photographers. Students can submit poems, stories, drawings, and photos. Each year Centrique sponsors two contests with cash prizes. Students may submit poetry, fiction, or artwork.

Poetry Underground

Poetry Underground is an organization for anyone who loves poetry. The group is open to all styles of poetry, including spoken word and rap. Fiction writers, dramatists, essayists, artists, and all other creative types are also welcome. Whether you are a literary veteran or are ignorant of poetry altogether, this organization of open-minded artists offers trips to readings, open mic nights, poetry slams, and weekly meetings.

The English Players

The English Players is a group of students, staff, and faculty who gather to perform scenes from one of Shakespeare’s plays each spring. Everyone is welcome and will receive a role. There are no auditions, and the emphasis is on the joy of performing Shakespeare. If you are curious, joining us for a fall table read is a great introduction!

Sigma Tau Delta

Sigma Tau Delta is the international English Honor Society. The Carthage chapter meets to promote and involve members in literature, poetry, and theatre. With more than 900 chapters nationwide and more than 9,000 members inducted annually, Sigma Tau Delta is a wonderful way to become more involved in the Carthage community and make connections with scholars across the world.

Phi Lambda Mu

Also popular with English majors, Phi Lambda Mu is an academic fraternity dedicated to the promotion and study of the art of filmmaking. Members participate in the filmmaking process and have opportunities to share their appreciation of the cinema.
