Arts facilities at Carthage include six naturally lit art studios; a state-of-the-art computer graphics and electronic music laboratory; the magnificent Fritsch Memorial Organ in A. F. Siebert Chapel; a flexible recital hall and art gallery; the Wartburg Theatre and Studio Theatre; and music teaching studios, ensemble rooms, and practice rooms.

Wartburg Theatre is the principal performance space for our main stage theatre productions and dance shows. The proscenium-style theatre accommodates 400 audience members and features a full 21-line fly system and newly updated light and soundboard.

This striking building is an outstanding concert hall. Located in the center of campus, it is the primary space in which the Carthage community assembles for worship, convocations, and other events. The Fritsch Memorial Casavant pipe organ is one of the finest tracker-action organs in the Midwest.

The Studio Theatre in the lower level of the David A. Straz Jr. Center is used for Studio Performances throughout the year as well as classes and coaching sessions from professors and faculty.

The H. F. Johnson Center of the Fine Arts (JAC) houses six naturally lit art studios; classrooms for art, graphic design, and music classes; and a state-of-the-art computer graphics and electronic music library.

The H. F. Johnson Gallery of Art displays work by established and emerging artists and gives Carthage students a chance to engage with current regional and national art trends.

The H. F. Johnson Recital Hall is utilized for faculty and student recitals, chamber music events, and cabaret projects. The Recital Hall’s intimate setting accommodates 120 audience members and features a Yamaha Grand Piano and a two-manual, 11-rank Cassavant organ.

The Visual Performing Arts Laboratory is a spacious gallery within the H. F. Johnson Gallery of Art that is reserved for student exhibitions, and exhibitions curated by art history students. Student exhibitions are held constantly throughout the year, including an annual student show and senior exhibitions. Musical Theatre Workshop Productions are also occasionally held in this space.

The N. E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center Dance Studio is available for dance technique classes as well as rehearsal for musical theatre and dance performances. The studio features a professional dance floor, mirrored walls, movable barres, and a sound system.

Carthage has two large ensemble rehearsal rooms for the vocal and instrumental music programs as well as a plethora of individual practice spaces.
