Mock Trial team 2019 in Minneapolis Carthage Mock Trial Team Red won six of their eight ballots and went 6-1-1 at the Minneapolis Regional Tournament the weekend of Feb. 22-24. Carthage Red took third place in the 32-team tournament and will now advance to the Opening Round Championship Series in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the weekend of March 8-10. Captains of the Red Team are Maham Ali ’19 and Joshua Kundert ’19. Continuing their earlier successes, Maham won an Outstanding Plaintiff Attorney Award and Joshua won an Outstanding Plaintiff Witness Award.

Mock Trial team captains 2019 Minneapolis Black also participated at the Minneapolis Regional Tournament. Several team members received nominations for their performances throughout the tournament as well. Kaitlyn Richardson ’21 and William Fabian ’22 are co-captains of the Black Team.

The season started with 13 new team members who had never before participated in mock trial at any level. Only Micah Pahl ’21 returned from last year’s team. At their first tournament of the season last October, also in Minneapolis, the Carthage teams finished a combined 1-14-1. Their performance in the regional is a quintessential reflection of the hard work, energy, and commitment put forth all season.

The team is coached by Professor Michael Phegley, (MGT/MKT) with the assistance of Attorney/Court Commissioner Loren Keating and Attorney Ryan Ogren. DaQuawn Bruce ’18 also assisted in coaching this year’s teams. Professor Helene DeGross is instrumental in the team’s development and success each season as well.

Additionally, Professor Art Cyr and the A. W. Clausen Center for World Business continue to provide support at each tournament and throughout the season.

Mock Trial is a course in Criminal Justice (CRJ 3300) which is taught each fall by Prof. Phegley. Students of all majors are welcome to participate.
