All Stories

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to celebrate with the artists at the opening reception for the new student photography show, “Coexist,” in honor of Pastor Kara Baylor, from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Ehrler Hospitality Center. Pizza and beverages will be available.

Julie Heinrichs ’25, Athletic Coexistence, digital, 2023 Coexistence is a philosophy and mindset beyond a bumper sticker; coexist is a way of life. Coexist is a juried student photography exhibition that explores metaphors of “coexistence.” Some of the photographs focus on relationships: connections between people, relationships in nature, and the everyday aspect of living itself. In other photos coexisting is an honoring or celebration of differences; while still some images connect uniqueness to the universal.

The exhibit features 11 digital photographs, including one diptych, by 10 Carthage students. Six additional students and one graduate received honorable mentions for their photos, which will be shared on social media.

The artworks were juried by several anonymous jurors and Debbie Clark, the administrative assistant to the campus pastor and the church relations program. Debbie worked, laughed, and collaborated with Pastor Kara for a decade as they served many Carthage students.

The show will be on display through Sunday, April 21, 2024 and is free and open to the public.

The photography gallery is a collaboration between the Center for Faith and Spirituality and the Photography and Film and New Media Program. “Coexist” is the fourth exhibition in this new gallery space.
