On Feb. 29 and March 1, students from The Front Office, the undergraduate sports management student organization, traveled to Indianapolis to attend the NFL Scouting Combine, as well as the Football Career Conference hosted by Sports Management Worldwide.

Prior to attending the Combine, the group of nine students had fun, insightful, and interactive conversations with Ken Yusko (director of the Industrial Organizational Psychology program at the University of Maryland and consultant to various NFL teams) and Sandy Burhans (sports and entertainment leader for ORBA).

The students then attended the NFL Scouting Combine session at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts, where they also had the chance to meet with Brian Mason (assistant coach for the Indianapolis Colts) and Malena Brown (administrative specialist and event producer).

The Football Career Conference hosted by Sports Management Worldwide was a wonderful experience in which students had the opportunity to network with and learn from various professionals in football. Panels focused on “Life of an NFL Agent,” “The Art of Scouting and Analytics,” “The Landscape of the NFL Media,” “The Impact of Analytics on the NFL,” and “Athlete Marketing and Endorsements.” Notable speakers included Jen Mueller (sideline reporter for the Seattle Seahawks), Kelli Masters (NFL agent), Adam Schefter (ESPN NFL insider), Dane Vandernat (former Las Vegas Raiders scout), Mark Dominik (former general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Larra Overton (producer, host, and reporter for the Indianapolis Colts), Aaron Schatz (FTN chief analytics officer), and Kristen Kuliga (NFL agent).

Also in attendance were Carthage Head Football Coach Matt Popino and Professor Carter Rockhill.
