Connor Wiseman ’24 is a recipient of the Ralph and Margaret Tenuta Carthage Scholarship and the Carthage Academic Honors Scholarship. He is a major in neuroscience with a minor in Spanish and chemistry. After graduation, he plans to go to medical school and become a neurologist.

“I chose Carthage because of the homey atmosphere and small class sizes. The professors were so personable and welcoming.”

Favorite class
“My favorite class so far was Neuroscience Research Methods and Statistical Analysis, or ‘rat lab.’ I loved researching with the rats — looking at real rat brains was very interesting. I learned a lot about the nervous system, and Professor Dan Miller is the best.”
Toughest class
“My toughest class at Carthage so far was calculus. The class was very difficult and had a lot of complex concepts. Math is not my strong subject, and this was definitely the case here.”
Campus involvement
“I’m part of various clubs, including the Pre-Health Club, Neuroscience Club, Carthage College Commuters’ Association, and Nu Rho Psi honors fraternity. I am vice president of the Chemistry Club and Theta Chi Delta honors fraternity.”
Golden opportunities
“I have been able to be a part of the human neurophysiology research team at Carthage starting my freshman year. This is my third year doing this research, and I am going to Long Beach, California, this year to help present this research at a national conference.”
Internships or campus employment
“As a pre-health student, I have not had any internships; however, I work as a medical assistant at a local independent medical practice in Kenosha during the week. On weekends, I work as a phlebotomist at a local hospital in Pleasant Prairie, about 20 minutes from campus. I also volunteer with a local hospice organization in my free time.”
Favorite spot on campus
“My favorite spot on campus is the first floor of the David A. Straz Jr. Center overlooking Lake Michigan. It’s a great spot to chill with friends or get some homework or studying done.”
Favorite memory
“My favorite Carthage moments were the Carthage Bingo nights with friends and the late-night food runs!”
What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?
“I think 8-year-old Connor wouldn’t believe me if I told him I would be studying brains and wanting to become a doctor. He would definitely think it was cool and exciting, though!”
