“Computer science is very enjoyable, especially when you finally solve the problem. It gives me a sense of relief knowing I can do anything if I can do this.”

Faculty mentors

“The Carthage faculty has had a huge impact on my life, especially Professor Mark Mahoney. He helped me through some hard times when I was working on a project and had some personal things going on in my life. He always knew what to say to help me keep going.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class at Carthage so far has been the Database Design and Management course. I love this course because Prof. Mahoney is interactive with this course as he pretends to be a customer asking you questions to help build him a database.”

Toughest class

“My toughest class so far has been Data Structures. This course focuses on huge data structures used in the real world at major companies. It was hard to grasp the trie structure because it was a more efficient binary tree.”

Campus involvement

“I play Valroant for the esports team on campus. Joining this team was the second-best decision I have made so far on campus; my teammates are so nice and generous, and I was thankful enough to help lead the team to the championship this year. We sadly lost by one game, but I was so happy to be able to get this far with this group of people.”

Favorite spot on campus

“I would have to say the TARC is my favorite place on campus. I love going to the gym every week as it is a good stress reliever and helps clear my thoughts.”

Favorite memory

“Two of my favorite memories were making it to the Valorant Championship and meeting some cool people in the Computer Science Department.”

Biggest surprise

“The biggest surprise has been the transition from going to college during COVID and then having no more COVID regulations. It’s such a different experience and so much better overall.”

Advice for other students in your major?

“My advice for achieving a computer science degree is: never give up no matter what, believe in yourself, and always ask questions.”
