Biography

After a 25-year career in the hospitality business, George Stevenson spent nine years as a full-time parent, raising two small children. In late 2020, he came to Carthage as a part-time public safety officer to get himself out of the house and start a new, fun career. He loved working at Carthage and decided to come on full time as assistant director of Public Safety in Jan. 2023.

His philosophy on public safety comes from a customer service perspective, and he is constantly looking for better ways to serve members of the Carthage community while prioritizing safety.

Education

  • B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from Knox College in Galesburg, Ill

Main responsibilities at Carthage

George is second in command in the absence of the director of Public Safety and represents the College at various meetings and events. He is responsible for the security and safety of all persons utilizing the institution’s facilities. He also provides scheduling for public safety officers and the campus shuttle.

Favorite thing about working at Carthage

“I enjoy sharing time with members of the Carthage community, getting to know the intelligent young people that attend Carthage, and, of course, spring through fall on Lake Michigan.”

Other interests?

“I like gardening, trail biking, foreign language study, martial arts, and yoga.”
