Schedule of Events
Alpha Chi Induction Ceremony
10 a.m., A. F. Siebert Chapel
The newest members of the Carthage College chapter of Alpha Chi will be inducted during the Alpha Chi Induction Ceremony. Alpha Chi is a National Honor Scholarship Society active on more than 300 college and university campuses nationwide. Students inducted into Alpha Chi are in the top 10 percent of the graduating senior class. This event will be held in person for Alpha Chi inductees and their families.
Honors Program Ceremony
11 a.m., A. F. Siebert Chapel
The Carthage Honors Program is for exceptional students who want to make the most of their liberal arts education. At this event, Professor Neil Scharnick, director of the Honors Program, will recognize the students who have completed all requirements to graduate with all-college honors. This event will be live-streamed for those who can’t attend in person.
Celebration of Scholars Poster Exhibition
1-3 p.m., The TARC
Carthage students and faculty will present their works of scholarship, research, and creativity at the 2023 Celebration of Scholars Exhibition. Each presenter or group of presenters will have an abstract and poster, and will be available to talk about their project during the event.
Nursing Pinning Ceremony
4 p.m., A. F. Siebert Chapel
A pinning ceremony is a way to welcome new nurses into the profession. This tradition traces back to the 12th century. The wearing of the pin represents the right and readiness to serve others and the assumption of the responsibility to provide excellent care. Each nursing graduate will be pinned with the Carthage pin, with invited guests welcome to share in the tradition. This event will be live-streamed for those who can’t attend in person.
Multicultural Celebration Event
6:30 p.m., Ceremony held in A. F. Siebert Chapel
7:30-9 p.m., Reception held in Hedberg Library
The Office of Equity and Inclusion collaborates with individuals from numerous departments to coordinate culturally-based graduate celebration ceremonies that complement Carthage’s commencement ceremonies. The multicultural celebration does not replace the formal graduation commencement ceremonies. The multicultural graduation event acknowledges and celebrates the achievements of Carthage students of racially and ethnically underrepresented groups and LGBTQIA+ identities.
Student Awards Ceremony
Time TBD
Todd Wehr Center Jockey Club Rooms
The Student Award Ceremony — always an important part of the Celebration of Scholars — recognizes student achievements in leadership, campus involvement, service, and academics. Awards include the Student Leadership Awards and Intellectual Foundations Scholarships. The recipient of the 2023 Distinguished Senior Award will also be announced.
